International Travel: Flying to Doha for the Qatar Grand Prix
Doha, the capital city of Qatar, is the primary access point for fans heading to the Grand Prix and an important transit hub in the Gulf region.
The city’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) has many international flights connecting Doha to the rest of the world. The airport is located around 15km from the city centre, making it a convenient entry point for international travellers.
Several airlines operate flights to and from HIA. Qatar Airways, the country’s flagship carrier, offers a wide range of flight options. Other major airlines, including Emirates, Lufthansa, and Air France, also operate regular flights to Doha.
Transport to and from the airport
Hamad International Airport is well-connected to Doha’s city centre. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Uber and Careem are available at the airport, and the Doha Metro has a station here.
- The Doha Metro’s Red line connects the airport to central Doha and Lusail, the closest station to the Grand Prix circuit.
- A taxi or rideshare from the airport to the city centre will take about 30 minutes.
Visa Requirements for International Travelers

Local Travel: Getting Around in Doha and Travel Options for the Grand Prix
Once you’ve landed in Doha, getting around the city is relatively straightforward. While Doha’s public transportation system is still developing, there are several reliable options for visitors to the Grand Prix to get around.
- Doha Metro: Though the network is still small, you can use the metro to reach many major destinations, including the airport. Though there is no station at the circuit itself, it will form part of the journey to the track for most fans. - Public Bus: Public buses are useful for larger distances and some parts of Doha not covered by the metro. Fares range from QR 2.50 for short trips to QR 9 for longer rides. Pay using Karwa Smart Cards, which can be topped up at various locations, including Hamad International Airport and Doha Bus Station. - Taxi and Rideshare: Taxis are an easier option than buses, taxis are a common mode of transport in Doha, and they can be hailed from the street or booked in advance. They’re metered, so you can be sure of a fair price for your journey. Looking for a rideshare option? Uber operates in Doha, as does the Dubai-based alternative Careem. Do note that traffic in Doha can be heavy, especially during peak hours, so allow plenty of time for your journey.
Getting to the Losail International Circuit
For the eco-friendly option, consider using Doha’s Metro system. Frequent shuttle buses will operate between the Lusail Metro Station and the Losail International Circuit.
Shuttle travel time from Lusail Metro Station to the Losail International Circuit may take up to 40 minutes. Additionally, on Fridays, the Metro only operates from 14:00, so plan your trip accordingly to ensure you don’t miss any of the action.
If you prefer a more direct route to the circuit, taxis and Uber services are a convenient choice. There will be a designated drop-off point at the circuit for these services. A taxi ride from the West Bay area of Doha to the Losail International Circuit typically takes approximately 25 minutes without traffic and costs around 35 Qatari Riyals. However, do factor in potential traffic delays when planning your journey.
Parking at the Circuit
For those planning to drive to the Losail International Circuit, some free parking will be available. You should expect some amount of traffic congestion on the roads surrounding the circuit and in the parking areas, though.
If driving is your preferred option, leave in good time and plan to arrive early. After the race will no doubt be when the traffic is worst, so don’t book an early flight as you might miss it.
