Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Travel Guide

Grand Prix
With a torrent of Saudi money filling F1’s coffers, a Grand Prix in the kingdom was almost inevitable. A new track in Qidiya was to be the location for such an event, but while construction continued, it fell to Jeddah to stage the first Saudi GP in 2021.
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is a brand-new street circuit that runs along the coast on public roads with some purpose-built sections. It’s a stunning location for a race, with views of the Red Sea and the city’s skyline. Though the most significant controversies of the Grand Prix have been unrelated to motor racing, the unusual circuit has raised a few eyebrows.
Legendary F1 circuit designer Herman Tilke threw away the rule book when designing this one. Dubbed the fastest street circuit in the world, it’s a flowing track with plenty of opportunities for racing and not a 90-degree turn in sight. It’s so fast in fact, its average speed of 250km/h is faster than Silverstone.
Besides a reputation for drama and good racing, fans who attend the Grand Prix can also look forward to one of the most hassle-free weekends at a race track. Being one of the more sparsely attended races means access and organisation are smooth and easy. As a result, fans in Jeddah won’t have to contend with the kind of giant crowds and queues that are a feature at many of the more popular venues.
And if you’re looking for something to do in your downtime, Jeddah has plenty to offer. From exploring the historic old town to shopping in the modern malls, there’s something for everyone. And with Saudi Arabia opening up to tourists in recent years, there’s never been a better time to visit this fascinating country.

Weather & Climate
Jeddah WeatherFor visitors from more northern climes, a trip to the Saudi GP is a chance to ditch your winter coat and top up your vitamin D. Daytime temperatures this time of year are in the mid to high 20s, and rain is unlikely.
